An introduction to the life and works of a distinguished thought-provoking intellectual, writer and Italian Holocaust Survivor. Through readings from If This is a Man, The Truce, and The Drowned and the Saved, we will follow Levi’s human and intellectual trajectory and examine his role as a witness of the catastrophe and as a critical author of our times. A presentation led by Dr. Nicola Gavioli, an Assistant Professor of Portuguese at Florida International University Among his research interests are Ethics, Human Rights and Literature; War and Literature; Witness Literature. On these topics he has published articles in academic journals in the United States and in Brazil. This is a program of Holocaust Education Week sponsored by the Holocaust Memorial Miami Beach, a Committee of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation.

This presentation will be accompanied by reading of Primo Levi's writings by Spanish doctoral student, José Villar.
