Online Certificate in Translation & Interpretation

WELCOME TO THE TRANSLATION AND INTERPRETATION PROGRAM AT FIU!

This program is for FIU degree-seeking students only. If you are not an FIU student, you will not be able to complete the certificate.

Are you looking to begin a career in interpreting or translation? Do you want to acquire a new skill to help your résumé stand out? You should consider our Translation and Interpretation Certificate Program. Established in 1980, our program offers T&I courses for Spanish-English FIU bilingual students. Our training can place a horizon of opportunities within your reach. There is much demand for translators and interpreters at all levels. Please CLICK HERE to check the Occupation Outlook Handbook.

This program is designed to provide the theoretical basis, skills, techniques, and practical experience to prepare FIU students for the field of Translation & Interpreting (English <-> Spanish). The Core Courses cover business practices, work opportunities, and ways of entering the profession, as well as the ethics, standards of practice, techniques, and methods of career development in the field. All courses provide extensive practice in all modes of translation and interpretation.

This program is for FIU degree-seeking students only.

Non-degree-seeking students can take up to five T&I courses, but they will not be able to receive the certificate.

Students must be fully bilingual in English and Spanish to start the program.

The certificate program consists of 18 semester credit hours. These same 18 credits may also count as electives for the Spanish major for students pursuing a B.A. in Spanish.
