With a Ph.D. in Literary, Cultural & Linguistic Studies from the University of Miami (2022), Dr. Salès brings a dynamic interdisciplinary approach to language learning and cultural understanding.
What sets Dr. Salès apart is his innovative research at the intersection of hip hop culture, urban studies, and French-speaking communities worldwide. His work explores how contemporary artists use music and literature to address social issues, challenge stereotypes, and give voice to marginalized communities. From analyzing French rap's perspectives on contemporary society to examining Indigenous self-representation in Francophone literature, his scholarship demonstrates how language and culture intersect with real-world experiences.
Dr. Salès teaches French at all levels, making the language accessible and relevant by connecting it to students' interests and contemporary culture. Whether you're a beginner learning basic conversation or an advanced student exploring complex cultural issues, his classes emphasize practical communication skills while fostering critical thinking about global Francophone cultures.
His research has been published in prestigious academic venues, and his documentary work demonstrates his commitment to bringing academic research to broader audiences.
Before joining FIU, Dr. Salès studied and taught in both France and the United States, giving him unique insights into different educational systems and cultural perspectives. He holds teaching certification from France and has extensive experience making French language and culture engaging for student populations.
Students in Dr. Salès's classes can expect to explore French not just as a language, but as a gateway to understanding global cultures, social movements, and contemporary issues. His interdisciplinary expertise spans media studies, sociolinguistics, and comparative literature, allowing him to help students make connections between language learning and their own academic and personal interests.
Whether you're planning to enhance your global understanding, conduct business internationally, study abroad, pursue graduate studies, or simply want to expand your cultural horizons, Dr. Salès is committed to helping you develop both linguistic skills and critical cultural awareness that will serve you well beyond the classroom.
Outside the academic world, Dr. Salès enjoys spending time at Miami Zoo with his daughter, where she loves sliding with the otters. He also considers himself on a personal mission to spread the word about French tacos (yes, with an "s"), a delicious culinary abomination coming straight out of Lyon Grenoble.
