Introduction to Japan
There are approximately 123 million native speakers of Japanese, the ninth largest of the world’s languages. Japan ranks as the third-largest economy globally by nominal GDP and is the only Asian member of the G7.
Japan is recognized as one of the world’s leading nations in technology and scientific research. It has long been at the forefront of industries such as industrial robotics and automobile manufacturing and continues to exert substantial influence in international markets.
Moreover, Japan maintains robust economic relationships and well-established trade and communication networks with countries including the United States, providing students of the Japanese language with numerous opportunities to engage in international business, diplomacy, and cross-cultural exchange.
In addition to its modern achievements, Japan has preserved a rich cultural heritage. From classical literature to contemporary popular culture, it offers a diverse range of cultural expressions. The study of the Japanese language provides students with the key to a deeper understanding of Japan, its society, and its cultural traditions.
