The Certificate in Translation & Interpretation (T&I) is only open to those enrolled in any undergraduate degree-seeking program at FIU. For those students who do not meet this requirement, the university provides the opportunity to take up to five (5) courses as a non-degree-seeking student. This way you can get the training you need in order to opt for state and national certification exams for translators and interpreters, leading to a career in the field. You can apply to become a non-degree-seeking student here.
The T&I Certificate requires a total of 18 credits (6 full-semester courses) in translation or interpretation (SPT 3000 and 4000 levels.) Students should start with the Foundations courses (SPT 3800 and/or 3812) and then take the remaining credits in any combination of SPT courses (internships are optional toward the end of the program of studies).
