FIU in Spain: Language and Culture
June 19-July 18, 2026
This four-week summer program offers students the opportunity to study in Salamanca, the perfect setting for immersive language learning, and one of Spain’s most historic and charming university cities. Salamanca is known for its golden sandstone architecture, vibrant student life, rich cultural traditions, and renown gastronomy. Participants enroll in six academic credits, with four hours of intensive Spanish language and culture classes each weekday. The program is open to students of all proficiency levels, from beginners to advanced.
Afternoons feature organized cultural activities around the city. In addition, students take part in excursions to some of Spain’s most visited and culturally important destinations. These include Segovia, known for its Roman aqueduct and fairy-tale castle; La Alberca, a traditional village nestled in the Sierra de Francia; Ávila, a medieval city; and Madrid, where students visit the world-renowned Prado Museum.
LOCATION DESCRIPTION
Salamanca is in western Spain in the region of Castilla y León, a historic area known for its well-preserved medieval cities, charming small towns, and deep cultural heritage. The city lies about 2.5 hours from Madrid by train or bus, making travel to the capital both easy and convenient. With a population of approximately 150,000, Salamanca is home to the University of Salamanca, one of the oldest universities in Europe, which gives the city its dynamic and youthful atmosphere.
Salamanca is a showcase of Spanish architecture, featuring Romanesque, Renaissance, and Baroque styles throughout its historic center. Its Plaza Mayor, considered one of the most beautiful squares in Spain, is an animated gathering place surrounded by cafés and cultural life. Best of all, everything in Salamanca is within walking distance, making it easy for students to explore and feel at home.
HOUSING
Students will be housed at AMRO Residence, a modern student residence located just a few minutes from the Universidad Pontificia de Salamanca and in the heart of the city. The convenient location allows easy access to both the university and Salamanca’s main attractions—all within walking distance. Each student will have a private room and bathroom, providing personal space throughout the stay. All meals are also included.
The residence features shared common areas for relaxation and socializing, including a laundry room, TV lounge, billiards room, and vending machines. Students will also have the chance to mingle with Spanish and international students living in the residence, offering more opportunities for cultural exchange and making new friends.
