Open to both degree-seeking and non-degree-seeking students, as well as members of the broader community, this certificate program provides participants with the opportunity to achieve professional-level proficiency in Portuguese. Offered in in-person, online, and hybrid modalities, it is ideal for those interested in using Portuguese across various fields, including international relations, technology, education, diplomacy, medical and health contexts, business, law, linguistic and literary studies, and public leadership.
Beyond leading students toward a functional, career-ready level of language proficiency, the curriculum also highlights humor as an essential component of cultural and linguistic competence for career readiness.
Special Features:
- Our university is one of the very few official centers in the U.S. authorized to administer the Celpe-Bras exam, the official Portuguese proficiency test from the Brazilian government. Students in this program will have the opportunity to take the exam free of charge.
- We maintain partnerships with major Brazilian multinational companies and frequently host guest speakers from these organizations, creating valuable networking opportunities and boosting students’ employability.
- The program offers virtual exchange and experiences through collaborations with international universities in Brazil and Portugal, such as the Federal University of Acre and the University of Brasília, as well as the Luso-American Development Foundation in Portugal.
- We offer study abroad opportunities in Brazil and Portugal, focusing on topics such as sustainability, business, and diplomacy.
This certificate requires only 16 credits, including language courses, and can be completed in as little as one and a half years.
