Exploring Korean Language Through Culture
June 21-July 4, 2026
Exploring Korean Language Through Culture enables FIU students to learn Korean language in its native cultural context in South Korea. The course balances classroom instruction, practical application of language learning, and travel as students learn and use Korean language daily. Participants will apply their Korean knowledge as we shop, use public transportation, navigate the city streets and interact with local people. Students will join the international summer study program of a major university in Korea for a Korean language study and cultural experience program together with Korea university students. The experience is primarily centered in Seoul, with day trips to several other cities and towns.
LOCATION DESCRIPTION
Seoul is the vibrant capital and largest metropolis of South Korea, serving as its economic, cultural, and political heart. Seoul hosts a population of 10 million people. With a history dating back over two millennia, the city is a blend of ancient traditions, such as its five grand royal palaces, and cutting-edge modernity, including a world-class high-tech economy and infrastructure. The Han River divides the city, and it is famous for hosting the 1988 Summer Olympics, which helped showcase its transformation into a leading global city, and secured its fame as the “Miracle on the Han River.” Seoul is considered one of the five most technologically advanced cities in the world.
HOUSING
During the program student participants live in three-star hotel accommodations in the heart of Seoul, within easy distance of the university where they will study Korean language and with whose teachers, students and staff they will relate daily throughout the program.
