Promoting successful black language learners
This internship is thanks to an NEH-funded grant for an HSI-HBCU collaboration awarded to Dr. Baralt. Black students are significantly underrepresented in foreign language learning and teaching spaces. The student intern will work with Dr. Baralt to conduct interviews to learn about students’ and teachers’ needs, learn how to design more inclusive tasks, and work on a research article for publication. The intern will also present with Dr. Baralt and colleagues at a research conference; funding for the conference will be provided. This internship counts towards the Global Learning Medallion.
This year’s intern is: Amber Robinson
Children’s Books in Haitian Creole
This internship is thanks to a partnership with the Children’s Trust of Miami-Dade and the Miami-Dade Family Learning Coalition, with support from FIU LACC. The student intern will work with Dr. Melissa Baralt and Prof. Nic Andre in overseeing the children’s book writing program in Haitian Creole. There is a dearth of books written in Haitian Creole for children and we are changing this. This internship counts towards the Global Learning Medallion.
This internship is due to start next year. Details coming soon!
