Program Description

This month long program is designed for students who wish to learn or improve the Italian language, know more about the Italian culture and experience the Italian way of living. The Italian "dolce vita" will change your perspective and attitude and you will became more international and definitely more Italian. 

Location Description

The magical Amalfi Coast will be the perfect location for this unforgettable trip. Salerno, the city where you will live for four weeks,  is a combination of unique emotions. It is the beauty of the coast. It is the charm of an ancient history. It is the scent of an unspoiled environment. The marvelous littoral - made up of beaches, cliffs and enchanting caves, and facing a sea that is a kaleidoscope of colors - enchant the visitor for the splendor of this place.

Course(s)

 Students must select 1 of the following courses: 

  • ITA 1130 - Italian 1 (5 credits)

    OR

  • ITA 1131 - Italian 2 (5 credits)

Cost

The estimated cost of the program is $1,825 and includes lodging for one month, 5 full-day excursions to Amalfi, Ravello, Caserta Palace, Pompeii, Naples, Amalfi and Paestum,  one visit to a limoncello factory, one pizza cooking class and one farewell dinner.  

The program fee does not include most meals, round trip airfare, personal expenses, FIU courses instructional fee ($205.57 per credit), and the non-refundable study abroad fee ($195).

 The Magic of Christmas Markets in Italy and Germany

Program Description

This course introduces students to the traditional Christmas markets of South Tyrol and Bavaria (Italy) also known as the 5 stars route. These markets reproduce a Christmas fairy tale atmosphere that is not usually included in the "traditional" study abroad route and, at the same time, students will wander in the romantic road of Bavaria (Germany) that lead to the enchanting Neuschwanstein Castle.

Location Description

Students will visit several cities of South Tyrol (North Italy) and Bavaria (South Germany) and discover their magic Christmas markets. Those cities are very close to the Alps, there will be probably snow in December.

Locations: Bolzano, Italy; Castello di Neuschwainsten, Germany; Cles, Italy; Fussen, Germany; Ingolstadt, Germany; Levico, Italy; Merano, Italy; Munich, Germany; Rothenberg, Germany; Trento, Italy; Verona, Italy

Course

ITA 4930: Special Topics (3 cr)

Housing

Students will be sharing double rooms in 3 star hotels. Single rooms are available at an additional cost.

Cost

The estimated cost of this program is $880.00 per person and includes 6 nights in hotels with half board (breakfast and dinner), private bus transportation for the entire length of the program, entrance fee of the Neuschwanstein Castle. T he first payment for the program (September 15) is non-refundable.

The program fee does not include lunches, round-trip airfare, FIU course instructional fees ($205.57 per credit), and the non-refundable Study Abroad fee ($175).
